He was much involved with the pioneer RLS for the West Midlands and served as Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and Chairman from 1932 to 1951. He was responsible for the chapter on London, north of the Thames, Hertfordshire and Essex in the LA's 1938 Survey of libraries.
